Even though there is an over supply of homes these days and a lot of foreclosures, there still aren't any real deals to be found and when you find what you think is a deal there are 3,4 or even 5 people fighting for it.
This is the exact situation that my wife and I recently found when we started looking for a new home.
In the end, we decided to build our next house by ourselves. I have a construction company that does work at manufacturing companies in my area so I had no experience in building a house, none of my subcontractors worked on houses, so I found myself in the same position as most people...wondering what to do next.
I decided that I would document every step of the process so I could help other people who wanted to build their own home even though they had no experience doing it before.
This website is the result of my efforts. As I write this on January 25, 2008, we are approximately 70 days away from moving into our new home and it has been an exciting experience and not as bad as everyone I talked to before said it would be.
At this point, it looks like our house when finished will appraise for $200,000-$250,000 more than it will cost to build it. Not too bad for 6 months worth of work.
My goal is to create a website that people can follow step by step to build their own home. I've reviewed a lot of other sites about home building while I prepared to create this site and I found that none of them have the insight and information that I have discovered from my unique view point.
I will tell you what I learned, which subcontractor does what part of your house and how to schedule them so you finish your house as fast as possible without affecting the quality of the workmanship.
I'll also discuss the ins and outs of financing including construction to permanent financing.
Then I'll tell you the secrets I used to keep my costs down even though I went with top quality in everything that I did.
Stick with me and you'll end up with a great experience building your own house and a heck of a lot of equity as a bonus.
